Getting age right on applications
Use the cutoff date, not today
Exams and government jobs check age on a fixed date in the notification, often 1 January or 1 August of the exam year. Someone who is 20 today may be 21 on the cutoff date and no longer eligible for a 'maximum 20 years' post. Always set the cutoff date before you read the result.
Match the date on your documents
Use the date of birth exactly as it appears on your Class 10 certificate or the document the application asks for. If your Aadhaar and school records differ, the application usually goes by the school certificate.
Relaxations are added separately
Age relaxations for reserved categories, ex-servicemen or persons with disabilities are added to the upper limit by the recruiting body. Work out your plain age here, then apply the relaxation from the official notification.
A little more clarity
Can I calculate age on an exam or job-application date?
Yes. Change “Age on this date” to the required cutoff date. The result gives completed calendar years, additional months and days, plus total elapsed days. Confirm the eligibility rules in the official application because some organisations apply their own conventions.
How are leap days and short months handled?
The tool counts complete months from the birth date. If a month does not contain the birth day, it uses that month’s last day. For example, a 29 February anniversary falls on 28 February in a non-leap year in this calculator.
